Cathedral of Valladolid: Bell Tower & Clock Closeup

About the Picture

When the construction of the Cathedral of Valladolid started (late 15th century), Valladolid was the capital of Spain. Shared closeup picture of it’s clock and bell tower against a cloudy sky shows only a small part of this beautiful architecture.

Construction funds were trimmed, due to decision to move the capital to Madrid and so, that seems the main reason why it could not be accomplished the way it was initially planed. However, I must say, it’s a very beautiful architecture, located in the heart of Valladolid, the city I found extremely beautiful and worth visiting.

Some quick, interesting facts about the Cathedral:

• it is also known as Catedral de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción, was designed by Juan de Herrera (in a Renaissance-style), the same architect who finished El Escorial, started by Juan Bautista de Toledo,
• The clock tower, visible in the image, is one of the most distinctive features of the cathedral, offering panoramic views of the city to those who climb it,
• The cathedral houses important works of art, including pieces by Juan de Juni and Gregorio Fernández, two renowned Spanish Renaissance sculptors,
• it costs only 2.50 Euro to enter the Cathedral.

Valladolid in my opinion is very-worth visiting, so don’t hesitate to add it to your 10 days itinerary when traveling Spain, or a bucket list for future Spain travel plans. City that’s beautiful, but also offers free museums and places to enjoy!
