Image Licensing and Attribution
SprayedOut photographs are shared to help bloggers, writers, publishers and other content creators find useful images for their work.
Many of the photographs can be downloaded and used in blog posts, online articles, travel guides, educational pages and similar content.
Attribution is required, and the exact conditions depend on the licence shown on the individual image page.
You normally do not need to contact me before using an image for a purpose that its licence clearly permits.
Quick Answer
Before using a SprayedOut photograph:
- check the licence shown on the individual image page;
- follow the conditions of that licence;
- credit me as the photographer;
- link to the original SprayedOut image page whenever clickable links are supported.
That is the most important part.
The individual image page will tell you whether commercial use, editing, redistribution or other uses are permitted.
Licences Used on SprayedOut
Photographs on SprayedOut may currently be available under one of three licences:
- SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License
- Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International — CC BY 4.0
- Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International — CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Please do not assume that the licence used for one photograph also applies to another.
The licence shown on the individual image page is the one that applies to that photograph.
SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License
This is the licence I use for newly published photographs when I want to make them available for genuine online editorial and informational content.
It allows eligible images to be used free of charge in content such as:
- blog posts and online articles;
- travel guides and destination pages;
- educational and informational content;
- company and organisation blog posts;
- digital publications that support attribution links;
- social media posts connected to substantial original content.
Monetised websites are permitted when the photograph supports substantial original content and is not itself being sold.
Reasonable editing, such as cropping, resizing and adding text for an article, is also permitted.
Attribution and a direct link to the original image page are required whenever clickable links are supported.
The licence does not permit the photograph to be offered as a standalone download, uploaded to another stock-image library, resold or used on products such as calendars, posters or merchandise.
Print, advertising, product and other uses may be available through separate permission or a separate licence.

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 — CC BY 4.0
Some SprayedOut photographs are available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.
This licence allows commercial and non-commercial use, editing and redistribution, provided that appropriate attribution is included and the licence conditions are followed.

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 — CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Some older SprayedOut photographs are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.
This licence allows non-commercial use, editing and redistribution with attribution. Adapted versions must normally be shared under the same or a compatible licence.

How to Credit a SprayedOut Photograph
A suitable general credit is:

When clickable links are supported, the credit should link directly to the original SprayedOut image page.
For example:
Photo by <a href="URL-OF-THE-ORIGINAL-IMAGE-PAGE">Luke Lawreszuk – SprayedOut.com</a>
The individual image page may provide a more specific attribution example.
For Creative Commons images, the credit should also identify and link to the applicable Creative Commons licence and indicate whether changes were made.
When a Clickable Link Is Not Available
Some social media platforms and digital formats do not support working links in captions.
In that situation, include a visible credit such as:
Photo by Luke Lawreszuk – SprayedOut.com
Where practical, also include the written URL of the original image page or tag the official SprayedOut account.
The aim is to make it easy for readers to identify the photographer and find the original source.
Images Available on Other Websites
Some of my photographs may also appear on stock-photo websites, image-sharing platforms or other services.
The same photograph may be offered under different terms by another platform.
If you obtain an image from another source, the licence supplied by that source applies to that particular download and use.
Uses That May Require Separate Permission
Depending on the licence attached to the photograph, separate permission may be required for:
- printed books and magazines;
- calendars, posters and photographic prints;
- advertising and promotional campaigns;
- product packaging;
- merchandise and print-on-demand products;
- use without attribution;
- standalone distribution;
- another use not clearly covered by the applicable licence.
Please check the individual image page and the applicable licence before contacting me.
If your intended use is not covered, send me the image-page URL and a short explanation of where and how you would like to use the photograph.

SprayedOut is a personal photography project rather than a large anonymous image library.
