Image Licensing and Attribution

SprayedOut photographs are shared to help bloggers, writers, publishers and other content creators find useful images for their work.

Many images can be downloaded and used in blog posts, online articles, travel guides, educational pages and similar content.

Each individual image page shows the license that applies to that photograph, together with the most important usage and attribution information.

You normally do not need to contact me before using an image for a purpose that its license already permits.

Quick Answer

If you would like to use a SprayedOut photograph:

  • check the license shown on the individual image page;
  • follow the conditions of that license;
  • credit me or SprayedOut as the source of the photograph;
  • link to the original SprayedOut image page whenever clickable links are supported.

That is the most important part.

The image page and its license will tell you whether commercial use, editing, redistribution or other uses are permitted.

Licenses Used on SprayedOut

SprayedOut photographs may be available under one of the following licenses:

The license shown on the individual image page is the one that applies to that photograph.

SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License

The SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License lets you use eligible photographs free of charge as part of genuine online editorial and informational content.

This includes uses such as:

  • blog posts and online articles;
  • travel guides and destination pages;
  • educational and informational content;
  • company and organisation blog posts;
  • digital publications;
  • social media posts connected to original content.

Commercial and monetised websites are welcome when the photograph is used to support genuine original content.

Reasonable editing, such as cropping, resizing and adding text for an article, is also permitted.

Attribution is required, with a direct link to the original SprayedOut image page whenever clickable links are supported.

The photograph itself may not be redistributed as a standalone download, added to another stock or image library, resold, claimed as someone else’s work or turned into a product for sale.

Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 — CC BY 4.0

Some SprayedOut photographs are available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License.

This license allows commercial and non-commercial use, editing and redistribution, provided that appropriate attribution is included and the license conditions are followed.

Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 — CC BY-NC-SA 4.0

Some SprayedOut photographs are available under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 4.0 International License.

This license allows non-commercial use, editing and redistribution with attribution. Adapted versions must normally be shared under the same or a compatible license.

How to Credit a SprayedOut Photograph

Please include a clear credit that identifies me or SprayedOut as the photographer or source of the image.

A simple example is:

Photo by Luke Lawreszuk – SprayedOut.com

You do not need to use these exact words. You can adapt the credit naturally to fit your article, caption or publication.

For example, depending on the photograph and your content, a credit could also look like:

  • Photo: Luke Lawreszuk / SprayedOut
  • Warsaw photograph by SprayedOut
  • Image by Luke Lawreszuk – SprayedOut.com

When clickable links are supported, please link the credit directly to the original SprayedOut image page.

The link can be placed on my name, SprayedOut, the photograph description or another natural and relevant part of the credit.

For example:

Photo by <a href="URL-OF-THE-ORIGINAL-IMAGE-PAGE">Luke Lawreszuk – SprayedOut.com</a>

The individual image page may also provide an attribution example suited to that particular photograph.

For Creative Commons photographs, please follow the attribution requirements of the applicable Creative Commons license, including identifying the license and indicating changes where required.

When a Clickable Link Is Not Available

Some social media platforms and digital formats do not support working links in captions.

In that situation, a visible credit such as this is fine:

You can word the credit naturally as long as it clearly identifies me or SprayedOut as the source.

Where practical, you can also include the written URL of the original image page or tag the official SprayedOut account.

The aim is simply to make it easy for readers to identify the photographer and find the original source.

Uses Requiring Separate Permission

For photographs available under the SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License, you do not need to contact me before using the image for the ordinary online editorial and informational uses covered by that license.

Separate permission or a separate license is required for uses such as:

  • printed books and magazines;
  • calendars, posters and photographic prints;
  • advertising and promotional campaigns;
  • product packaging;
  • merchandise and print-on-demand products;
  • use without attribution;
  • standalone distribution;
  • stock-photo, wallpaper or other image-library distribution;
  • another use not covered by the SprayedOut Free Editorial Image License.

Creative Commons photographs may allow different or broader uses, so please follow the specific Creative Commons license shown on those image pages.

If your intended use of a SprayedOut-licensed image is not covered, send me the image-page URL and a short explanation of where and how you would like to use the photograph.

SprayedOut is a personal photography project rather than a large anonymous image library.

I share these photographs because I like seeing them become part of useful articles, guides and other creative work.

Attribution helps readers find the original source, discover more of my photography and keeps the image connected to the person behind the camera.
