Segovia in Spain! When I knew I’m traveling to Spain in a couple of days, and also knowing that I would be in Madrid, I had about 2 days visit nearby cities, I knew I can’t miss the opportunity to visit Segovia, get to the Mirador del Alcázar y los Dos Valles viewpoint and enjoy the sunset view of the Alcazar de Segovia castle.

When I stepped off the high-speed train from Madrid, I had one goal: reach the Mirador del Alcázar before the sun went down. When planning my travel itinerary, and researching about Segovia I saw many beautiful pictures of landscapes that include the castle in them. I got inspired quickly and really wanted to grab my own picture of this beautiful medieval castle, Segovia went to my bucket list.

The Alcazar de Segovia castle was built in 12th century and throughout its existence, it served quite interesting purposes, many would not think of.

After the royal court moved to Madrid, the fortress held inmates for more than two centuries. In 1762 Charles III founded the Royal Artillery School here, the oldest military academy that’s still active; and it’s also said it has inspired creation of the Cinderella Castle for Disney World.

Segovia is located a short high-speed train from Madrid and its also home to one of the best-preserved Roman aqueducts in Europe – Aqueduct of Segovia. Small city, but quite popular among to tourists. It’s no wonder why its listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites and it’s a perfect 1-day trip spot in Spain near Madrid.

Was it worth the visit? Certainly, If I have a chance to go back, I will be glad to visit the hills once again to enjoy this stunning landscape and architecture. When planning your travels, think about having Segovia in your itinerary.
