Pink Zinnia (Zinnia Elegans) Flower Closeup in Tokyo – Free Picture

About the Picture

Zinnia Elegans what a beautiful “scientific name” for a flower, a family of “Asteraceae”, here we have a Pink Zinnia which offers a beautiful contrast of the yellow-crown of pollen and pink/purple leaves.

It was a Saturday afternoon, when we took a stroll in Tokyo’s Setagaya, exploring the neighbourhood, certainly not expecting to meet a beautiful garden of flowers on the way with bees “running” around doing their job.

When passing by, I was instantly mesmerized by the vibrant petals of the Pink Zinnia flower, in a look that’s more inviting to me that when it has tons of petals when it’s in full season bloom.

I’m excited to share the resulting photograph with you—a macro closeup that captures the flower’s layered petals, accented by a yellow crown of pollen.

We may not be attracted to every single flower, but every single flower teaches me how deep, unique and special this world is. Let’s take a look on the Zinnia flowers, some unique facts and what’s so special about this specific flower:

  • The Zinnia genus is named in honor of the German botanist Johann Gottfried Zinn, who was instrumental in the study of the plant’s anatomy during the 18th century. Zinnia elegans, often referred to as the common zinnia, is the most widespread species cultivated by gardeners and flower enthusiasts,
  • Zinnias are originally native to Mexico and parts of Central America. Zinnia elegans, in particular, thrives in sunny, warm climates and was eventually brought to gardens worldwide due to its eye-catching color palette and easy-to-grow nature,
  • One of my favorite things about Pink Zinnias, and Zinnias in general, is their extended bloom time. If you grow them in your garden, they can reward you with flowers from mid-summer right through to the first frost. This long flowering period is a boon for anyone looking to maintain vibrant colors in their garden,
  • f you enjoy floral arrangements, Zinnias have sturdy stems and can last up to two weeks in a vase if cared for properly. Their bright, cheerful blooms can easily be the showpiece of a bouquet,
  • Zinnias have come to symbolize friendship, lasting affection, and daily remembrance, partly due to their extended blooming period and resilient nature. A Pink Zinnia, in particular, is often associated with affection and gentleness.

It’s challenging to take a nice, macro shot of a flower, but certainly I’m happy with this shot. I love the colors and not only of the flower, but the whole surroundings, I call it a perfect match. It was taken with 105 mm lens, I use mainly for macro shots and portrait photography. It teaches me everyday, how wonderful the world of flowers and anything closeup is.

When I think of Tokyo (maybe you too), the first images that come to mind are skyscrapers, neon lights, and bustling streets. Yet, nature finds its special niches in this urban landscape, and the Pink Zinnia I found stands as proof of how greenery and blossoms can coexist amid modern architecture. Small rooftop gardens (like the Meguro Sky Garden), hidden shrines, and local parks often house such beauties. Walking around with my camera, I’ve learned that there’s always a secret garden or a pocket of nature waiting to be discovered—if you’re willing to slow down and look.

I took the shot in one of the city’s lesser-known community gardens. These are maintained by local volunteers who take pride in showcasing seasonal blooms. The bright petals of the Zinnia seemed to reflect the vibrancy of Tokyo life, a vivid reminder that nature and city life can intertwine harmoniously.

Feel free to download this flower picture for free to use on your blog or web article to promote flowers that we love and bees can’t survive without.
