Segovia Gothic Cathedral Daytime View: Must-See Landmark in Spain

About the Picture

La Dama de las Catedrales – that’s how it’s often called and I don’t think I really need to translate the name. Beautiful architecture, I was not expecting to see during my trip to Segovia in Spain.

Why?

Because Segovia, maybe not a big city, but packed with beautiful architecture, already shared by me – Roman Aqueduct, Alcazar de Segovia and more.

However, when you plan a trip to Segovia, it would be a great choice to visit the Cathedral, which construction begun in 1525, so in 2025 the Segovia’s Cathedral is celebrating 500 years anniversary.

If you’re going to visit the “Lady of the Cathedrals”, hidden deep within the cathedral—its exact spot kept secret to spark your own treasure hunt—lies the tiniest stone in the whole structure. Folklore promises that if you discover it, circle it three times, and whisper a desire, your wish will come true.

I haven’t but supposedly you can climb the 190 spiraling steps of the bell tower. From the top you’ll see the Guadarrama peaks on one side and the Alcázar’s fairy-tale turrets on the other. The ticket costs less than a plate of patatas bravas, and the views will dwarf anything you can buy in a souvenir shop. It’s already in my bucket list for the next trip to Segovia!

If you’re looking for a vertical picture of the Cathedral taken from the Alcázar side—check out my earlier post: download a tall Segovia Cathedral picture here.

This picture of the Segovia Cathedral daytime view, I took while having a stroll in Segovia city, just enjoying what city has to offer and looking for nice places for photography. I highly recommend you have some time saved, just to walk around any streets your intuition leads you, as you never know what you can find just around the corner.

Feel free to download this picture and use it on your blog about Spanish travel, history, or architecture, and while in Spain, especially in Madrid, book a high-speed train ticket to visit this beautiful city, enjoy the Cathedral and other beautiful architecture you can find in this UNESCO World Heritage old-town.

Segovia Cathedral—nicknamed La Dama de las Catedrales for its graceful late-Gothic lines—crowns the Castilian skyline at 1,000 m above sea level. Landmark visible from almost every corner of the Segovia’s UNESCO-listed old town.
