About the Picture
The Puente Mayor is one of the oldest bridges in Valladolid. Some sources mention that it was built in 1080, but commonly, it’s said it was constructed around 13th century. It certainly stands close to many unique places in Valladolid and attracts sunset photographers.
I took this picture of the Pisuerga river and the Puente Mayor during my one night stay in Valladolid, when I was looking for a great place to take a sunset picture.
And so I decided to visit Playa de las Moreras, to relax for a bit, enjoy the sunset and hopefully take a good picture of it. The location is quite unique, the picture was actually taken right after the sunset, when I walked from the Playa to a closer location of the bridge, called “Las Aceñas del Pisuerga (ruinas)”.
The place that was a big deal in Valladolid’s history. It’s where remnants of an ancient watermill system are located. The system that once harnessed the river’s power for grinding grain. They were a vital part of Valladolid’s economy in the Middle Ages.
Today, the ruins provide a fascinating backdrop and a quiet place to admire the river and the bridge. They certainly create great water flows for the photography.
When it comes to the bridge features seven distinct arches, and its sturdy design has withstood centuries of floods and wear. Onn the picture you can see just 5 of them.
Of course, the bridge has to undergone several renovations over the centuries to ensure its stability. Despite these updates, it retains its original medieval charm, making it a favorite spot for photographers, history enthusiasts, and especially locals.
When you’re travelling to Valladolid and looking for a nice play to relax by the river, enjoy some outdoor activities, Playa de las Moreras might be something for you to think of visiting.
I’m not sure how popular Valladolid is among tourists, but I fell in love with the city. It offers not only beautiful architecture, a wonderful Plaza Mayor, but it’s also a city that has this beautiful Pisuerga river, great for a stroll, cycle around or just soak in the beauty of Valladolid city.
It’s also not a long walk away from Campo Grande, nearby park, ideal for families and anyone looking to enjoy Valladolid’s greenery. And from there you can also visit Valladolid’s Cathedral, and the very first Plaza Mayor in Spain and stunning architecture as Santa Maria La Antigua.
Feel free to download this picture of the Pisuerga River and Puente Mayor Bridge, Valladolid’s sunset cityscape and use it on your blog or web article if you find it matches your needs.
