About the Picture
When traveling, seeing popular landmarks, iconic places is a must and a great experience, however discovering hidden gems, places that are not listed in top 10 places to see it’s another type of joy. San Miguel Church in Segovia is one of those places.
On the picture we have the tower of Iglesia de San Miguel and I really like this Romanesque architecture with its iconic bell tower and stonework, so eye-pleasing.
What’s so special about the church, you might wonder?
Well, it is famously known as the site where Queen Isabella I of Castile was crowned in 1474, Segovia was a very important city in her life. The coronation marked a significant moment in Spanish history, laying the groundwork for the eventual unification of Spain under Catholic Monarchs.
The bell tower was added in 16th century if I’m not mistaken and my research was right.
It’s a very easy Church to see, so you should add it to your itinerary when planning a trip to Segovia. If you’re there, it’s located where you most probably will enjoy your time as it is located in the heart of the city, just next to Plaza Mayor of Segovia, where you can enjoy a coffee and Castilian cuisine, maybe “cochinillo”? Roasted suckling pig? Sounds… no comment :).
Also, nearby you will find a famous tourist attraction, Casa de los Picos, a building covered in pyramid-shaped granite blocks (about 617 of them). This historic landmarks, dating back to 15th century, currently it’s the Art School of Segovia and exhibition hall.
Do I need to add more? Pack your bags and just travel!
