Urban Cityscape: Picture of the Casa Mila (La Pedrera) in Barcelona, Spain

About the Picture

La Pedrera or Casa Milà that’s how this piece of art is called, which was created in 1906-1912 by Antoni Gaudi, of course in Barcelona. The city, where his genius can be seen in many creations.

In the world, we often think that Gaudi’s works are colorful, vibrant mosaics, like famous Park Güell, however that’s not always the case and Casa Mila has a more subdued, yet equally striking, aesthetic. It stands out with its wavy, stone facade that seems to flow like liquid. The ironwork balconies resemble abstracted plant forms, showcasing artist’s fascination with organic and natural shapes.

Personally, I really like his unique style, and I found La Pedrera fascinating, however I couldn’t enjoy the inside’s of the building, but you certainly can while visiting Barcelona.

Or at least enjoy pieces of it when watching the movies it appeared in, like Vicky Cristina Barcelona, a movie by Woody Allen in which Vicky and Cristina explore the rooftop chimneys. If you’re planning to visit the place, the rooftop is certainly a must-see place!

The artist’s talent is widely recognised these days, and when we think about Barcelona, we often think about Gaudi. However, when the building was constructed, the building faced criticism and people were “joking” about it. However, now it’s listed in UNESCO World Heritage sites list.

I highly recommend visiting the Casa Mila website, where you can read a great article about the history of Casa Mila, and in case, also purchase the ticket if you’re interested in visiting.

Feel free to download this picture and use it on your blog or article that talks about Antoni Gaudi’s masterpieces.
