About the Picture
When you travel, with or without the bigger plan, but you give yourself a bit of faith, an inner knowing that you will end up in beautiful places, a day ago you didn’t know about, beautiful things happen.
That’s how I often travel, that’s how I ended up in Plaça d’Espanya, and from there, Montjuic National Palace was just a stone throw away.
I took this picture of the Montjuic National Palace during my, let’s call it, 1,5 day trip to Barcelona. I couldn’t end up in a better place, but we will get to the why. Maybe.
First of all, let’s share some interesting stuff, about this iconic landmark in Barcelona, and let’s start with the place from where the picture was taken – Plaça de les Cascades.
Plaça de les Cascades, which is located at the base of Montjuic hill, it’s famous for its series of cascading fountains, they lead up to the Montjuic National Palace. Yes, I know, they are not “running” on the picture. Thanks for pointing that out.
I’m not sure if they run everyday the Magic Fountain show takes places, but I certainly know, I wish to be able to visit there during the show, during the evening-night time hours. I wish to see the show, I wish to see the city lighten up from the hill, see how it looks like.
These fountains were designed for the 1929 Barcelona International Exposition, up to this day they bring thousands of visitors with their symmetrical elegance and beauty, they are the part of the show I mentioned about, which is called “Magic Fountain of Montjuic”, which also includes music show. Do you have your tickets to Barcelona booked yet?
When it comes to the Magic fountain show, this site you may want to visit for the times of the show, before just heading there.
Oh, the show is free! Great news, as actually in Barcelona you pay often quite a big “fee” to see some of the iconic buildings, attractions, I’m thinking about Gaudi’s houses. So if you’re a parent traveling with couple of kids, you certainly want to enjoy the free stuff, as the paid ones add up drastically quickly!
Let’s continue, and talk about the Montjuïc National Palace, the one on top of the picture. It’s not only beautiful from the outside, but it’s home to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC in short), one’s of Europe’s premier art museums. Its collection spans Romanesque frescoes (the largest in the world) to modern Catalan art.
What’s an interesting fact, the fact that might be not true, found on internet but I just couldn’t find many sources about it. The Palace was built in just three years! It’s quite massive and if really, it took only three years to built it. I just say, wow! WOW!
Once you stand in front of the Palace, you can see the whole Barcelona skyline, but I won’t describe the view, one day I share a picture with you.
Also, if you need a closeup picture, here I share the picture of the dome of the National Art Museum of Catalonia, I always love photograph the detail shots.
And why it was a perfect place for me to end my Barcelona trip? Of course I wish to see it in the evening, daytime might be not as wonderful there as evening, but it’s a perfect place to catch a bus to the airport. Enjoy the place, get on the bus and catch a flight, so extremely convenient.
